Human application of ozone has been 150 years of history, during which ozone generation technology has undergone many changes and innovations. According to the way of ozone generation, there are three main ways of ozone generators: high voltage discharge (corona discharge), ultraviolet irradiation, electrolytic.
First, high voltage discharge generator
This kind of ozone generator uses a high voltage current of a certain frequency to create a high voltage corona electric field, so that the oxygen molecules in the electric field or around the electric field have an electrochemical reaction, thus producing ozone. Corona method ozone generator has the advantages of mature technology, stable work, long service life, large ozone production (up to 20Kg/h or more), so it is the most widely used ozone generator at home and abroad.
In the high voltage discharge ozone generator is divided into the following types:
1, according to the high voltage frequency of the generator, there are three kinds of power frequency (50-60Hz), medium frequency (400-1000Hz) and high frequency (> 1000Hz). The power frequency generator has been basically withdrawn from the market because of its large size and high power consumption. Medium and high frequency generators have the advantages of small size, low power consumption and large ozone output, and are now the most commonly used products.
2, according to the use of gas raw materials, there are two types of oxygen and air type. The oxygen type is usually supplied by an oxygen cylinder or oxygen generator. Air type usually uses clean and dry compressed air as raw material. Because ozone is produced by oxygen, and the oxygen content in the air is only 21%, the ozone concentration produced by the air generator is relatively low, and the oxygen purity of the bottle or oxygen generator is more than 90%, so the ozone concentration of the oxygen generator is high, and it is widely used in large and medium-sized ozone generators.
3, according to the cooling method, there are water-cooled and air-cooled. Ozone generator will produce a lot of heat energy, cooling is a very important technology in the production technology of ozone generator, cooling is not good, not only the ozone generator equipment is easy to damage, ozone gas will be generated by high temperature edge decomposition. The water-cooled generator has good cooling effect, stable operation, no attenuation of ozone, and can work continuously for a long time, but the structure is complex and the cost is slightly higher. The cooling effect of air-cooled type is not ideal, and the ozone attenuation is obvious. High performance ozone generators with stable overall performance are usually water-cooled. Air cooling is generally only used for ozone generators with small ozone production, such as Beijing Tonglin ozone generators, and air cooled products are limited to small ozone generators below 10-100g/h. More than 100g ozone generators use self-cooling or external cooling water.
4, according to the dielectric material division, there are several types of common quartz tube, ceramic plate, ceramic tube, glass tube and enamel tube. Because of the different process and different ingredients added to each material, the dielectric constant of the finished product is also very different. The glass dielectric has low cost and stable performance, and is the dielectric used in the early days of ozone generators, but the mechanical strength is poor and easy to be damaged, so it exits the historical stage. At present, from a worldwide perspective, quartz, enamel and ceramics are the most used dielectrics for large and medium-sized ozone generators.
5, according to the ozone generator structure, there are two kinds of gap discharge (DBD) and open. Gap discharge ozone generators are divided into ordinary intermittent discharge and compound gap discharge. The structure is characterized by ozone generation in the gap between the internal and external electrode intervals, and ozone can be collected centrally and output using its higher concentration, such as for water treatment. The electrode of the open ozone generator is exposed in the air, also called surface discharge, and the ozone generated is directly diffused into the air, which is usually used for air disinfection.
Second, ultraviolet ozone generator
Ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 185nm is used to irradiate oxygen, causing oxygen molecules to decompose and produce ozone. Because the electric-optical conversion efficiency of the ultraviolet lamp is very low, only 0.6-1.5%, the power consumption of ozone generated by the ultraviolet method is as high as 600kw/kg ozone, which is much higher than the corona discharge method technology of 7kw/kg ozone of Beijing Tonglin Ozone, so there are fewer industrial applications. At present, it is only used in the manufacture of low concentration pure ozone and some disinfection cabinets.
Three, electrolytic ozone generator
Such ozone generators usually produce ozone by electrolysis of purified water. This kind of generator can produce high concentration of ozone water, low manufacturing cost, simple use. However, due to the shortcomings of cumbersome maintenance, short electrode life, low output, and not easy to collect ozone, its use is very limited. At present, this ozone generator is usually used to prepare a small amount of high concentration ozone water.
